- You are between 18 and 75 years old.
- You have a confirmed type of cancer called adenoid cystic carcinoma that started in your nose or sinuses, and it is at an advanced stage (T4).
- Your doctor plans to remove the tumor with surgery, but it is considered high-risk because it may be near important areas like the skull base, eye, or lining of the brain.
- You have not had radiation therapy to the head or neck before, and you have not had a high cumulative dose of certain chemotherapy drugs called anthracyclines.
- Your overall health is reasonably good, meaning you can take care of yourself and your heart, liver, kidneys, and blood counts are within acceptable limits.
- If the cancer has spread to lymph nodes, those can be removed with surgery; if it has spread elsewhere, the spots must be stable.
