Who can take part

  • 18 years or older and can sign consent forms
  • Scheduled for a heart device implant or replacement (pacemaker, defibrillator, or resynchronization device)
  • Already taking a NOAC blood thinner for at least 5 days before enrolling
  • Diagnosed with atrial fibrillation or flutter with a CHA₂DS₂-VASc risk score of 2 or higher
  • No active infection, severe bleeding, or very low platelet count
  • Not pregnant and life expectancy greater than 1 year
