Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You are scheduled for planned (elective) liver or bile duct surgery
- You do not have a history of allergic reactions to penicillin-type antibiotics (beta-lactams)
- You do not have an active, uncontrolled infection before surgery
- You have not taken strong steroid medications in the past month
- Your liver and kidneys are working well enough for surgery
