Who can take part
- You are scheduled for elective (planned) open thyroid surgery
- You are in good overall health (ASA class I or II, meaning no serious medical conditions or only mild, well-controlled ones)
- Your BMI (body mass index) is 30 or lower
- You do not have uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart problems, or lung disease
- You have normal liver and kidney function
- You have never had surgery on your mouth, jaw, neck, or airway, and have no structural abnormalities in these areas
