Who can take part

  • Scheduled for a specific type of thyroid surgery performed through the mouth (non-inflatable transoral endoscopic thyroid surgery) that uses a breathing tube
  • Overall health status classified as ASA class I or II (generally healthy or with mild medical conditions)
  • Body mass index (BMI) of 30 or less
  • No serious heart, lung, liver, or kidney conditions
  • No previous neck, mouth, or airway surgery, and no structural abnormalities in these areas
  • No chronic breathing problems like COPD, asthma, or chronic cough
