Who can take part

  • You are having planned (elective) surgery that requires general anesthesia (sleep medication)
  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You do not have a predicted difficult airway or conditions that make intubation (breathing tube placement) challenging
  • You have not had previous surgery or structural problems affecting your throat, neck, or upper airway
  • You do not have a high risk of food/stomach contents entering your lungs during anesthesia
  • Your teeth are in generally good condition (not loose or weak)
