Who can take part
- Age 18 or older
- Diagnosed with coronary artery disease or severe heart valve problems (mitral or aortic)
- Scheduled for elective heart surgery or angiography with cardiopulmonary bypass (heart-lung machine)
- No active cancer, recent chemotherapy, or immune system disorders
- No bleeding disorders, platelet disorders, or blood clotting problems
- No recent major surgery, serious heart attack, or unstable heart condition
