  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You were admitted to the Emergency Department and then transferred to the ICU at this hospital
  • You do not have liver cirrhosis (scarring of the liver)
  • You are not pregnant
  • You have a working IV line (needle in your vein) for blood draws
  • You stay in the ICU at this hospital—you are not transferred to another hospital before your ICU stay ends
