Who can take part

  • You are between 40 and 100 years old and scheduled for total knee replacement surgery
  • You have not taken branched chain amino acid supplements or multinutritional supplements in the past 4 weeks
  • You do not have a genetic condition affecting how your body breaks down amino acids or processes galactose and lactose
  • You do not have serious liver disease or a history of high tibial osteotomy (a different type of knee surgery)
  • You do not have neurological diseases like stroke or Parkinson's disease, or gait problems unrelated to arthritis
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy without using contraception during the trial
