Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You have been diagnosed with heart disease (coronary artery disease, valve disease, or aortic disease)
  • You are scheduled for or have recently had open-heart surgery with a vertical chest incision
  • You can communicate clearly and follow instructions
  • You do not have a pacemaker or heart pump device
  • You have no history of stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, or previous chest surgery
