Periostin protein levels and quality of life in back pain patients

This study looks at how a protein called periostin relates to back function and quality of life in people with disc herniations or spinal stenosis. You'll fill out two questionnaires and have your periostin measured from a blood draw or MRI.

Who can take part

  • You have a herniated disc or narrowing of the spine in your lower back
  • You have had an MRI of your lower back
  • You are able to fill out questionnaires about your pain and daily life on your own
  • You do not have certain other health problems like asthma, recent fractures, severe bone thinning, or infections

Study of rhGDF-6 for chronic low back pain from disc degeneration

This trial tests a new drug called rhGDF-6 injected into the discs of your spine to help repair them. If you have had low back pain for at least 3 months despite trying other non-surgical treatments, and your MRI shows disc wear or changes, this study may offer a new option.
