Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You had major surgery (abdominal, vascular, orthopedic, or head/neck) and are now in the intensive care unit
  • Your breathing tube was removed before leaving the operating room
  • You do not have a tracheostomy or a significant nerve/muscle disease
  • You are stable enough for measurements in the first 2 hours after ICU arrival
