Nerve stimulation for radiation necrosis after brain radiation

This study tests if a gentle electrical stimulation on the ear (called taVNS) can help treat radiation necrosis, a possible side effect of brain radiation. You'll either get the real stimulation or a sham treatment, and the study will see how it affects your condition before a planned biopsy and laser surgery.

Who can take part

  • You have had brain radiation for a glioma or metastatic brain tumor and now have a brain lesion that might be radiation necrosis.
  • You are scheduled for a brain biopsy and laser ablation surgery to remove the lesion.
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • If you take steroids, you can stop them at least 5 days before starting the study treatment (unless it's a small daily dose for hormone replacement).
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and if you could become pregnant, you have a negative pregnancy test.
