Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 70 years old.
  • You have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder (type I or II) and are currently experiencing at least moderate depression.
  • You are either not taking any bipolar medications, or have been on a stable dose for at least 1 month and plan to stay on that dose (or off meds) during the study.
  • You have access to a regular psychiatrist or therapist before, during, and after the study.
  • You can speak and understand English well enough to complete all study tasks.
  • You do not have any metal implants or devices in your head or neck (like stents, pacemakers, or cochlear implants) and can safely have an MRI.
