Laser imaging plus AI for faster lung surgery diagnosis

This study tests a new laser imaging tool that works with artificial intelligence to give fast, accurate results during lung surgery. If you are already scheduled to have lung surgery for a suspicious spot, the laser scan will be done on your tissue and compared to the standard frozen section and final lab results.

Who can take part

  • You have a spot, mass, or suspicious area on your lung seen on a scan (like a CT or X-ray).
  • You are going to have lung surgery (removing the spot or a part of your lung).
  • During surgery, a fresh piece of your lung tissue can be scanned with a special laser for this study.
  • Your doctor already plans to do a 'frozen section' – a quick test of your tissue during surgery – to check if it is cancer.
  • After surgery, a final, more detailed tissue analysis (paraffin block) will also be done as part of your regular care.
