  • You are pregnant with one baby (not twins or more).
  • You are 19 years or older and less than 14 weeks pregnant at the start.
  • You can attend four study visits in Fredericton, New Brunswick, from early pregnancy to one month after birth.
  • You are willing to drink 250 mL of kefir every day OR avoid kefir until your 26–28 week visit, depending on which group you're assigned to.
  • You do not have diabetes, a digestive disease, a dairy allergy, or take medications that affect blood sugar.
