This trial tests an oral Chinese herbal capsule (Naoxintong) added to your usual care to see if it can better protect your kidneys from diabetic kidney disease. You will have a 50/50 chance of getting the real capsule or a placebo (no active ingredient).

Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You have type 2 diabetes and a diagnosis of diabetic kidney disease (confirmed by tests showing protein in your urine or reduced kidney function).
- You are leaking at least 0.5 grams (but less than 3.5 grams) of protein in a 24-hour urine collection.
- Your kidney function is at or above 45 out of 100 (a common measure called eGFR).
- You have been on a stable dose of a standard kidney-protective medication (an ACE inhibitor or ARB) for at least 8 weeks.
- You do not have type 1 diabetes, other kidney diseases, or a recent major heart or stroke event.
