Who can take part

  • You need to have coronary artery disease and be planning a scheduled (not emergency) heart bypass surgery.
  • Your surgery will use a vein from your leg (the saphenous vein) for the bypass.
  • You must be able to understand the study and give your written permission to participate.
  • You should not have had leg surgery in the past on the leg where the vein will be taken.
  • You should not have an active infection or severe circulation problems in your legs.
  • You should not have very dark or sensitive skin that could affect how the light treatment works.
