Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older and are scheduled for a planned (not emergency) heart surgery.
- Your medical team plans to place a central line (a thin tube) into a neck vein using ultrasound guidance as part of your surgery care.
- You can take part in a simple frailty assessment, which includes a grip strength test and a short questionnaire.
- You have not had neck surgery, radiation to the neck, or any neck masses, infections, or blood clots in your neck veins.
- You do not have a severe bleeding disorder (INR over 2.0 or very low platelets) and are not currently unstable or needing emergency resuscitation.
- You can fully understand the study and give your permission to participate.
