Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have been on a breathing machine (ventilator) for more than 48 hours.
  • You do not have any chest conditions that would make an ultrasound difficult (like a paralyzed diaphragm, broken ribs, collapsed lung, or fluid around the lungs).
  • You do not have a nerve or muscle disease.
  • You do not have a severe head injury.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
