NASA Exercise Prebreathe Study

Decompression Sickness

Part of Injuries & trauma clinical trials.

This study tests how exercise before breathing pure oxygen affects the body, helping to prepare astronauts for spacewalks. It may also offer insights into preventing decompression sickness in divers and aviators.

NCT04791488Recruiting
Testing oxygen level effects after diving or oxygen therapy

This study looks at how breathing extra oxygen (hyperoxia) and the body’s immune response change after diving or when people need hyperbaric oxygen therapy. It may help doctors understand what to expect and how to manage recovery after a diving accident.

Breathing in space: a ventilation study

This study looks at how well your lungs work during zero-gravity flights. You'll breathe into a device during special parabolic flights to help scientists understand ventilation in space.

Metz
NCT07216755Recruiting
Breathing training and nitrate for altitude exercise

This study tests whether breathing training and a natural nitrate supplement (from beets) can improve how well you exercise in conditions that simulate high altitude. You'll do cycling workouts while we measure your performance.

NCT07671638Not yet recruiting
Exercise and low oxygen in healthy volunteers

This study looks at how healthy people respond to exercise in low-oxygen conditions (like high altitude). It will help researchers understand the body’s normal reactions.

La Tronche
NCT07777367Recruiting
Exercise with liquid oxygen in chronic lung disease

This study compares how well people with chronic lung diseases perform during exercise when breathing regular air versus when using low-flow liquid oxygen. It aims to see if using liquid oxygen during exercise can improve exercise ability and quality of life.

NCT07777445Recruiting
Oxygen treatment during exercise for lung and pulmonary vascular disease

This study compares breathing normal air versus low-flow liquid oxygen during exercise to see if oxygen helps improve performance in people with conditions affecting the lungs or the blood vessels in the lungs. You would exercise while using a portable oxygen device and then without it to compare the effects.
