Vision training and atropine for myopia in children

Who can take part

  • Child is between 6 and 12 years old
  • Nearsightedness (myopia) in both eyes, with a prescription between -1.00 and -6.00 diopters
  • Good corrected vision – at least 0.8 (80%) in the right eye with glasses/contacts
  • No other eye conditions or treatments for myopia in the past 6 months (like atropine or special lenses)
  • Willing to wear special glasses for at least 10 hours a day and, if in the experimental group, do a 18-minute VR training each night plus use atropine drops before bed

Low-dose atropine drops to slow childhood nearsightedness

This trial tests two low-dose atropine eye drops (0.01% and 0.02%) to see if they can safely slow down the worsening of nearsightedness (myopia) in children. Your child would receive either one of these drops or a placebo (an inactive drop) once daily for up to 2 years.
