Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older and were in the ICU.
  • You had a breathing tube in your mouth and a ventilator for more than 48 hours.
  • You have been successfully taken off the breathing tube.
  • You do not have a past swallowing problem or a condition like Parkinson's, stroke, or ALS affecting swallowing.
  • You have not had head or neck surgery or radiation in the past.
  • You are alert and stable enough to undergo the swallowing test.
