Using a heart rate and blood pressure index to predict heart problems after abdominal surgery

Who can take part

  • You are 45 years old or older.
  • You are having or had major abdominal surgery that lasted at least 2 hours.
  • You have a history of heart disease, or had a blood test for heart strain (BNP or troponin) within 30 days before surgery that was high, or you have at least two heart risk factors (like high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, or high cholesterol).
  • You do not have a severe acute heart problem, severe uncontrolled high blood pressure, kidney failure needing dialysis, sepsis, or need strong medicines to keep your blood pressure up before surgery.
  • You are not pregnant, and you agree to let the researchers use your medical records.
