Eye imaging before and after an ultra-trail race

This study looks at whether running a very long race (100 km) changes the blood vessels in the back of the eye. They will compare people running the race with active people who are not racing, using special eye scans.

Who can take part

  • You are signed up for the UTMA 100 km solo ultra-trail race, OR you are an active person (without intense exercise in the past week) who exercises 4–6 hours per week.
  • You are willing to have eye exams at the same times as the ultra-trail group.
  • You have no eye conditions that could affect the images (like severe nearsightedness, cataracts, or macular disease).
  • You do not have diabetes or a condition affecting blood vessels or inflammation.
  • You are not taking vasoconstrictor medications, and you avoid tobacco for 4 hours and caffeine for 1 hour before the study visits.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
