Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 35 years old
  • You have been diagnosed with advanced gum disease (stage III or IV)
  • You have at least 20 teeth, with some deep gum pockets (5 mm or more) in your back teeth
  • You are generally healthy and not taking medications that affect your gums
  • You do not smoke, chew tobacco, or drink alcohol
  • If you are female, you are not pregnant or breastfeeding
