- You have been declared brain dead and your family or decision-maker has agreed to organ donation and this research.
- You are being cared for at the Gift of Life at Penn Medicine Donor Care Center.
- Your blood oxygen and carbon dioxide levels are within a healthy range while on a ventilator.
- You do not have severe lung disease, such as COPD, asthma, or a collapsed lung.
- You are not severely obese (BMI under 40) and weigh at least 25 kilograms (about 55 pounds).
- You are not already identified as a potential lung transplant donor.
