  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are currently on a breathing machine (ventilator) with pressure support
  • You are expected to need the breathing machine for more than 48 hours
  • You have not been on pressure support for more than 48 hours already
  • You do not have certain nerve, muscle, or lung conditions that affect breathing
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
