Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You have a type of esophageal cancer called squamous cell carcinoma, confirmed by a biopsy.
  • Your tumor is in the part of the esophagus in your chest.
  • You are planned to have surgery to remove the cancer.
  • You are willing to have an MRI scan of your esophagus, and you are not claustrophobic.
  • You have not had certain other treatments before the MRI, or you are in the group that gets chemotherapy or radiation before surgery.
