Who can take part

  • You must be between 18 and 65 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with major depression, and your current episode is moderate or severe.
  • You are either taking a stable dose of an SSRI antidepressant (for at least 4 weeks), or you have not taken any psychiatric medication in the past 4 weeks.
  • You are able to undergo MRI scans (no metal implants, no severe claustrophobia).
  • You do not have other major psychiatric conditions (like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or epilepsy).
  • You are not pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the study.
