Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have a primary ventral hernia—a bulge in the belly wall that is not from a previous surgery.
  • Your surgery is planned to be done laparoscopically (with small cuts and a camera) using the IPOM technique (mesh placed from inside the belly).
  • You are well enough for general anesthesia and laparoscopic surgery.
  • You do not have a strangulated hernia (cut-off blood supply) or other emergency condition.
  • You are not pregnant and have no active skin infection near the hernia.
