Who can take part

  • You are age 65 or older.
  • Your vision loss is due to end-stage age-related macular degeneration affecting both eyes’ central vision (bilateral central scotomas).
  • Your eye exam shows geographic atrophy or a scar involving the center (fovea), and you have a vision-impairing cataract.
  • You need to be able to improve at least 5 letters using an external telescope during a screening test.
  • You have usable side (peripheral) vision in the eye planned for surgery, and you can do the study’s training and assessments before and after surgery.
