Ultrasound biopsy to stage lung cancer before SBRT

This trial looks at using a scope with an ultrasound tip (EBUS-TBNA) to take small tissue samples from lymph nodes to figure out the cancer stage before stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). The goal is to help confirm how far the cancer has spread so SBRT can be planned appropriately.

Who can take part

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have confirmed non-small cell lung cancer and need this ultrasound-guided biopsy for lymph node staging before SBRT
  • Have stage T1–2 lung cancer with no sign of distant metastasis (spread to other organs)
  • Be able to do the procedure safely (your doctors think you can tolerate bronchoscopy) and have an illness/activity level score of 0–2
  • Must have had or need CT and PET scans for staging, and you cannot have surgery (either not medically safe or you refused surgery)

Testing leftover fluid from lymph node biopsies to find lung cancer

This trial is for people who are scheduled for a lung cancer biopsy (EBUS-TBNA) because doctors suspect non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has spread to lymph nodes. It will test leftover fluid from the biopsy to see if it improves cancer detection. If your biopsy is negative but you still need surgery to remove lymph nodes, you can help us learn more about this new test.
