MRI and brain scans before epilepsy surgery

This study collects noninvasive brain scan data (mainly MRI, sometimes MEG) from people being evaluated for focal epilepsy surgery, and from healthy volunteers. It aims to build reference “normal” brain images and improve how doctors plan and interpret epilepsy surgery evaluations.

Who can take part

  • Be age 8 or older (or have a child who is 8+)
  • Be going through epilepsy surgery evaluation under one of the listed study protocols
  • For patients: your epilepsy must be “focal” confirmed by MRI, EEG, and/or seizure descriptions
  • Be able to consent (or have a parent/guardian or legally authorized representative who can)
  • For healthy volunteers: be able to do MRI scans without anesthesia and cooperate during the scan
