Who can take part

  • Be a child with body weight between 3,000 grams and 180 kilograms
  • Have a surgery that the study team considers suitable
  • A parent/guardian can sign consent, and the child can also consent if they are older than 12
  • Not have severe long-term inflammatory or chronic diseases
  • No active infection (or certain long-term infections) at the time of the study
  • Able to eat normally (not “nothing by mouth”)
