Who can take part

  • You’re currently a Stanford Healthcare patient and part of the Bariatric Surgery Clinic, and you have sleeve or RYGB surgery planned
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 30 and 55
  • Your age is between 30 and 65
  • You should not have diabetes based on standard fasting blood sugar results (fasting glucose less than 126 mg/dl)
  • You should not have significant anemia, or major heart, liver, kidney, or stomach/intestine disease
  • You must not be pregnant or breastfeeding, and you can’t have had bariatric surgery before
