  • You are 18 to 65 years old
  • You are scheduled for abdominal surgery (bariatric surgery, gallbladder surgery, or abdominal wall surgery) done by laparoscopy or a larger incision (laparotomy)
  • You match one of several body-mass-and-blood-sugar patterns measured with a glucose test
  • You are able to understand the study information and give consent
  • Your surgeon does not think another condition makes tissue sampling too risky for you
