It may help some children who cannot benefit from a cochlear implant, but spoken language may not be the main outcome.

Who can take part
- Your child is within the study age range (about 18 months to under 21 years depending on hearing history)
- Your child has hearing loss caused by missing or severely abnormal cochlea/hearing nerves, confirmed by imaging (MRI and/or CT)
- If a cochlear implant was tried, it must have given little or no benefit (or it cannot be revised/redirected to work better)
- Your child can take part in required listening tests and mapping visits (and can be safely evaluated under general anesthesia)
- You and your child’s team agree to the study plan, follow-up visits, and required meningitis vaccines
