Who can take part

  • Be between 9 and 16 years old
  • Have scoliosis that requires treatment for the next year with a brace, OR severe scoliosis that needs posterior spinal fusion surgery
  • Have the type of scoliosis that fits the study groups (surgery group, brace group, or matched healthy control)
  • Do not have any other muscle disease or a nerve/muscle problem that causes scoliosis (neuromuscular scoliosis)
  • Be able to complete the study measurements using motion sensors and an ultrasound-based test
