Who can take part
- Be 18 years or older
- Have been diagnosed with cervical myelopathy (spinal cord compression in the neck) without radiculopathy (nerve pain/arm symptoms from a nerve)
- Be scheduled for posterior neck decompression that involves the C4–C5 space between 2016 and 2018
- Surgery plans may include laminoplasty or laminectomy with fusion in that area
- No prior surgery on the cervical (neck) spine
- No history of spinal cancer, injury/trauma, or infection (to avoid mixed causes of symptoms)
