Who can take part

  • Be 18 years or older and have confirmed squamous cell cancer of the voice box (larynx).
  • Have a specific cancer stage: T1N1 or T2–4a with N0–1 (your staging tests must match this).
  • Be able to do daily activities at a level of 0 to 2 (ECOG/Zubrod scale).
  • Be considered able to undergo partial laryngectomy (partial removal of the voice box), based on a surgeon checklist.
  • No prior surgery removing the main tumor from the voice box (no resection of the primary disease).
  • Not have had induction chemotherapy or prior radiation to the head and neck area.
  • If you could become pregnant, use birth control and do not become pregnant during the study and for 90 days after; also agree to follow the study’s consent rules.
