Esophageal Squamous Cell Neoplasm

Who can take part

  • You’re an adult (18 or older) with early esophagus squamous disease such as high-grade dysplasia, carcinoma in situ, or T1N0M0 squamous cell cancer
  • You were treated successfully with endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) to remove the abnormal area
  • Your iodine (Lugol) staining test showed a “speckled” pattern with more than 10 small unstained spots
  • Your previous endoscopic treatment had no major problems like perforation (a tear) or problematic narrowing (stricture)
  • You have not had chemotherapy or radiation for the esophagus, and you have not had surgery to remove the esophagus (esophagectomy)
  • You have enough health to likely live at least 2 years, with good enough function and not severe liver disease
