Who can take part

  • You were evaluated by a surgical team for suspected or confirmed aortic dissection
  • Your symptoms were concerning for a life-threatening problem (not clearly another illness)
  • You did not have major recent blood transfusions (red cells, whole blood, or platelets) within 10 days of the blood sample
  • You did not have conditions that can confuse the results, such as major lung disease, active cancer, or kidney problems
  • You were not being seen only for routine checkups after a surgery
