Who can take part

  • Baby is 3 to 30 days old after birth
  • Baby was born very early (about 23 to 29 weeks) and is not older than 36 weeks after weeks-in-pregnancy plus weeks-after-birth
  • Baby’s birth weight was between 501 g and 1249 g
  • Baby has an endotracheal breathing tube in place for standard care and is not being intubated just for this study
  • Baby needs breathing support and has had worse or no improvement in the ventilator settings in the last 24 hours
  • Parent/guardian gives written consent and agrees to follow the study plan
