MRI test in newborns with breathing problems (BPD)

Who can take part

  • Be a baby who was in the NICU (newborn intensive care unit) and is being treated for BPD (a long-term breathing condition)
  • Be able to safely have an MRI scan based on the hospital’s standard MRI safety rules
  • Do not be on ECMO (a heart/lung support machine)
  • No known or suspected birth conditions or genetic problems that could affect lung development (example: congenital diaphragmatic hernia)
  • No signs of a current breathing infection at the time of the scan (a cold may allow rescheduling)
