Who can take part

  • You have prostate cancer proven by biopsy or surgical sample as adenocarcinoma (not pure small cell, sarcomatoid, or squamous types).
  • Your prostate is still in place, and you have not had prior prostate-focused treatments like ablation or brachytherapy.
  • Your cancer has spread to bones and other places based on standard scans (bone scan plus CT or MRI) within the last 42 days, and there is no brain spread.
  • You’ve already had 22–28 weeks of standard hormone-based treatment (or surgical castration) and your cancer has not progressed during that time.
  • You’re not planning to start docetaxel after joining the study, and side effects from prior treatment are mostly mild or gone (no worse than mild).
  • You must have recent PSA and testosterone blood tests, and be well enough to do most normal activities (Zubrod performance status 0–1).
