This trial tests whether using a special PET scan (FDG-PET) to find and treat only the spots where cancer has spread with targeted radiation can help men with prostate cancer that has spread but still responds to hormone therapy. It compares standard treatment alone to standard treatment plus this targeted radiation.

Who can take part

  • You have prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, seen on a CT, MRI, or bone scan.
  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You have a performance status of 0 to 3 (you are up and about at least half the day).
  • You are starting or have recently started hormone therapy, with or without chemotherapy or other hormone-blocking drugs.
  • You can lie still for about 15-20 minutes and tolerate PET scans and radiation planning.
  • You have adequate blood cell counts (white blood cells, neutrophils, and platelets).
