Who can take part

  • You are between 21 and 75 years old
  • You need “neuraxial” anesthesia (anesthesia given near the spine) for surgery
  • Your body size must fit the trial groups: either BMI 30+ (obese group) or BMI in the normal range
  • You do not have a history of scoliosis (a curved spine)
  • You do not have prior spinal surgery or implanted hardware in your spine
  • You cannot have an allergy to the ultrasound gel
