Who can take part
- Be 18 to 65 years old
- Have a diagnosis of major depression without psychosis (no hallucinations or delusions)
- Have moderate to severe suicidal thoughts, based on specific depression interview/ratings
- Be able to speak English well and be willing to follow study instructions
- Be admitted as an inpatient to the psychiatric unit at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis
