Who can take part

  • You have osteoarthritis and are scheduled for a first total knee replacement (knee arthroplasty) with a participating surgeon.
  • You plan to receive regional anesthesia (a nerve/area anesthesia approach rather than full sleep general anesthesia).
  • You can understand and follow the study instructions at home, in English.
  • You live within about one hour of the hospital and have a smart phone.
  • You do not have serious liver or kidney problems, and your BMI is 40 or less.
  • You are not on long-term gabapentin or pregabalin, and you do not have uncontrolled chronic pain concerns (high pain catastrophizing).
